On September 5th FITCI hosted the 11th Annual FITCI/Fort Detrick Alliance Technology Showcase which featured a new partnership with The Maryland Defense Technology Commercialization Center (DefTech). With nearly 200 people in attendance the showcase celebrated the acceleration of technology over the years and included a keynote address from Gary Evans, the executive director of DefTech. The event also included remarks from Fort Detrick Alliance President Hank Abramson, Frederick County Executive Jan Gardner, City of Frederick Mayor Michael O’Connor, and FITCI President and CEO Kathie Callahan Brady.
Fitting in with this year’s theme, the event showcased technology innovations from 23 clients. Guests were able to explore FITCI facilities while learning more about these companies and their innovations in the tech and biotech fields.
Guests and participants reacted positively to the event, with many stating that it was one of the best of the year. Showcase participant Brian Appel of Janus Sciences, LLC said that he was “truly taken aback and amazed by the efforts to allow us fledgling companies to share our stories.” Appel also praised FITCI President and CEO Kathie Callahan Brady for her leadership and praised the efforts of FITCI staff to support clients in “everything [they] have to do.” Appel further stated that the showcase “raised the bar,” for future tech events and that anyone interested in participating in future showcases “should definitely take the time and effort to show what they do to investors, developers, and guests.”
