Dr. Mei Sun is the Defense Health Agency Portfolio Manager who is managing multi-million-dollar budgets for biomedical research projects. Currently serving as the Neurosensory Portfolio Manager at the US Army Medical Research and Development Command (USMRDC), she specializes in neurosensory research and development investment.

With over six years of experience supporting the DoD mission, Dr. Sun has overseen numerous biomedical research initiatives, fostering collaboration between intramural and extramural organizations, including DoD commands, government agencies, academic institutions, and commercial partners.

Prior to her current role, Dr. Sun held significant positions, including Senior Scientist and Principal Investigator at the US Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Disease (USAMRIID) from 2014 to 2017. She also conducted research at Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) and Genentech Inc. before joining the government sector.

Dr. Sun earned her PhD in Biology from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), and holds an MBA degree. Her research contributions have resulted in over 20 publications in prestigious scientific journals including Science and Nature, and she collaborates with esteemed scientists, including Nobel laureates Dr. Roger Tsien and Dr. Eric Betzig.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Dr. Sun actively contributes to the scientific community as Vice President – Affiliated Societies of the Washington Academy of Sciences. Her dedication exemplifies her commitment to advancing biomedical research and development.
